DRUM Pumps

Information on Drum Pump

Drum Pump are also called as Barrel Pumps. They are used for pumping out or transferring thin to low viscous, neutral or corrosive liquids from Drum or Barrel in a safest way. Drum pumps are ideal option for intermittent operation

Type of Drum Pump used in Various Sector

  • For low viscous liquids such as Acid, Alkalis and cleaning agent polypropylene (PP) and PVDF make drum pump can be used. Can transfer : Boric Acid, liquid fertilizers, ammonia, boric acid, distilled water, acetic acid (80%), photo developers, fruit acids, potassium hydroxide, copper chloride, lactic acid, sodium hydroxide, phosphoric acid, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid (up to 90%), hydrogen peroxide, citric acid etc.
  • For hardly flammable and neutral liquids Aluminum pumps are the best option.  It is more suitable for oil up to 1,000 mpas. Can transfer :  diesel fuel, liquid soap, cooling lubricants, liquid wax, gear oils, heating oil, hydraulic oils, machine oils, mineral oils, motor oils, crude oil, glycerine, fatty acids, linseed oil etc.
  • For corrosive, neutral and aqueous liquids a used in food industry Stainless Steel make Drum pump can be used. Also can be used for transferring flammable or explosive liquids but only pump tubes marked “Zone 0” are to be used. Such metal tubes are only Stainless steel and Hastelloy “C” tubes. Can transfer: Alcohol, acetone, ammonia, gasoline, flammable solvents, caustic lye, nitrocellulose lacquers, perchlorethylene, phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid (up to 7.5% and over 90%), trichlorethylene, toluene etc. Also are suitable for pumping thin fluid food such as fruit juices, milk, edible oils etc.

ROTARY LOBE PUMPS

Information on Rotary Lobe Pumps

Rotary Lobe pumps are Positive Displacement pumps that use two or more rotating lobes in a rotor case or chamber to move liquids. The rotors are located on shafts, which in turn are mounted within an external gearbox. The shafts to which rotors are located rotates in opposite direction when in motion. The external timing gears located in the gearbox transfers the energy from the drive shaft to the driven shaft that meshes the rotors in such a way that they rotate without contacting each other. When the rotor passes the inlet port there is increase in cavity generation simultaneously decreasing the pressure which persuade the pumped liquid to move into the rotor case between the rotor’s lobes and the casing but it does not pass between the lobes. Finally the pumped material move out of the outlet port.

Advantages

  1. Lobe pumps can be used for pumping large size particles compare to other positive displacement pump.
  2. Lobe pumps are more often used in food applications because they pump solid particles without damaging it.
  3. In Lobe pumps as lobes do not contact each other and also as clearance are not closed can handle low viscosity liquids with diminished performances.
  4. Lobe pumps are ideal for sanitary applications as can be easily cleaned using CIP (Clean-in-place) or SIP (steam-in-place) methods.
  5. Lobe pumps are very useful for pumping viscous liquids.
  6. Lobe pump’s output can be increased or decreased by varying the speed of the pump’s motor with the use of a variable frequency drive (VFD).

Applications

Rotary Lobe Pump can be used in various applications as mentioned below

  1. Soaps
  2. Paper Coatings
  3. Paints and Dyes
  4. Wide range of Food Applications
  5. Polymers
  6. Pharmaceutical Applications & others
